Links of Love

Assuming people get bored at work or in class (crazy, I know, but bear with me), here are some links to sites that you absolutely must check out for time-wasting and filling your life with beauty and happiness:

1. The Selby-- Todd Selby photographs the living spaces of ridiculously creative and artistic (or just ridiculous, in some cases) people. You could get some ideas for decorating your own home, but mostly I just gaze at the pictures, completely dumbfounded. I even borrowed the light bulb picture from his site for the heading for this blog. (Hope Todd Selby won't get mad if he ever finds out.)

God it was hard picking just one picture to share with you, but I really love the shots of this couple and their place. They're one of my favorites on the site, and I wish they would adopt me, in a totally non-weird way.

2. Daddy Likey-- Pretty sure I've linked to this already, but it definitely bears repeating for this post. A blog about fashion, but without the usual brain-dead writing and useless fashion advice. The writer of the blog, Winona, keeps things funny and interesting with her great writing style, sense of humor, and help from the occasional fashion-wise woodland creature. I only just discovered the blog, and have spent the past few days reading through the entire thing. Your turn. Go.

She also has a new book out:

3. The Cherry Blossom Girl-- Written by Alix, a Parisian girl with impeccable taste in fashion and all things girly. Full of gorgeous pictures of Alix modeling her to-die-for clothes, shoes and jewelry. I could spend days looking through her albums and wishing I could trade lives with her.

4. Anders Loves Maria: If you love webcomics, art, or even just Swedish things, you need to see this right now. If you don't particularly love any of those things, you still need to see this. Written by Rene Engstrom, the comic chronicles the turbulent love-life of fictional Swedes Anders and Maria. The artwork is stunning, the storyline is achingly real (with enough drama to make me want to turn this into a little indie, Oscar-winning movie), and there's even some nudity! Okay, I'll admit that that last bit might not be a plus for everyone, and that the comic is not always safe for American workplaces, but I promise that this webcomic is not porn and is definitely worth the time you'll accidentally end up spending reading it from back to front.

5. Chester 5000 XYV:
Incidentally, if you do happen to be into webcomics with lots of nudity and sexy-times, you should check out this one by Jess Fink. It's the classic tale of girl meets robot, girl falls in love, girl gets orgasms.

Rather than list them all separately, other webcomics that rock are: xkcd (if you're into math and sarcasm), Dinosaur Comics (if you're into dinosaurs or tiny elephants), and Questionable Content (if you're into, I dunno, a good storyline and characters (and the content isn't actually extremely questionable or anything like that)). Obviously I'm a big fan of webcomics. I don't really know how this happened. Probably because of falling in love with all the excellent ones I just mentioned.

6. The A. V. Club:

This is my boyfriend's favorite site, and is quickly becoming one of mine as well. It's not about fashion or art specifically; rather, it covers all things related to pop culture. The hilarious and talented staff covers things like movies, books, music, television, and pop culture news, and provide us with beloved features such as The Hater and Savage Love. Do yourself a favor and check it out, because chances are you're into at least one of the above categories, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a site with higher-quality writing and humor than this one.

7. ModCloth:
This site probably doesn't need unknown bloggers to promote it, but I just had to add it to the list because I could spend days browsing their indie/retro/vintage-inspired clothes and shoes, their quirky jewelry and accessories and... apartment things, I guess? Not sure of the right phrase there. Unfortunately, most (okay, all) of their stuff is of my reach financially--just slightly, too, which makes it all the more frustrating. But one day, when I'm rich, I'll buy everything they have. Until then, ModCloth. Until then.

8. ignettology:

Okay, so this one's a bit of a shameless self-plug, but hey, since when have I ever shied away from being shameless? (Answer: never.) If you like writing, then you should check out this blog that my boyfriend Josh and I started. Vignette is just another word for flash-fiction: super-short, paragraph-size stories. We accept submissions at vignettology@gmail.com and then post the best ones on the site. Feel free to give it a try!

So there you have it, some of my top-visited and loved sites. You're welcome. Now get started on that time-wasting.
