What I Wore Today

Today I was in the mood for something a little different, so despite the still-freezing weather, I skipped the sweaters and jeans and wore shorts with tights and a t-shirt (with a jacket of course, the brief time I was outside). It was a pretty simple look to put together and wear, but at the same time I felt it was sophisticated and chic. Also, I gave myself a little trim the other night because my hair is getting horribly long and shaggy but I won't be home to get it cut for a while. What do you think?

Agh, the top bit of my hair is still ridiculously thick and helmet-like. I really want a real haircut. Just one more week! I also tried to include my shoes in the above shot, but since you can't really see, I was wearing my vintage Oxford heels.

Weekend Song

Here's a weekend song for you guys: "Help I'm Alive" by Metric. I can't stop listening to it, and whenever I watch this performance I get the chills! Check it out here on youtube.

Also, here are the lyrics:

I tremble
They're going to eat me alive
If I stumble
They're going to eat me alive

Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?
Beating like a hammer?
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
Hard to be soft
Tough to be tender

Come take my pulse, the pace is on a runaway train
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer

If you're still alive
My regrets are few
If my life is mine
What shouldn't I do?
I get wherever I'm going
I get whatever I need
While my blood's still flowing
And my heart still beats . . .
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer

Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
Hard to be soft
Tough to be tender

Come take my pulse, the pace is on a runaway train
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer

If you're still alive
My regrets are few
If my life is mine
What shouldn't I do?
I get wherever I'm going
I get whatever I need
While my blood's still flowing
And my heart still beats . . .
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer
Beating like a hammer

Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer

Amazing, right? Hope you enjoyed!

P.S. How brilliant is her dress (literally)? I covet it!

What I Wore Today

Happy Friday! To celebrate the end of a very nasty week and some very nice weather (35 and sunny, YES), I decided to wear a colorful dress today. You can see in the above picture how happy this dress makes me. I got it from Target awhile ago and yes, it is a dress, although it looks more like a skirt here. I wore it with a t-shirt that matched (it's hard to find something that doesn't match this dress) and a sweater on top for warmth. My brown boots and sweater tights are both from T.J. Maxx. Yes, sweater tights. That means they're fuzzy and soft and warm on the inside! Amazing.
I love the idea that tights/pants and boots in the same color range make your legs look longer.

And I also threw in a shot of me dressed entirely in my outer gear: coat, scarf, knapsack and all. I think the end result went together pretty well, and it was fun to have so many colors whipping around my legs in the wind today--instant cheering-up.

Red Things I Want

Why red? I have no idea, really. I was just browsing longingly through my ever-growing collection of pretty things in my "WANT" folder (yes, I do this regularly), and a bunch of awesome red things popped out at me. Let's just pretend this is a late Valentine's Day post, okay? Okay, good.

And if this post actually was on time for Valentine's Day, this first one would have been perfect. Luckily, Yay Today (which is where I found it) featured it in plenty of time for other lucky people to get it for their lovers. So, this pillow is from Alexandra Ferguson's Etsy shop. Check out her other stuff, it's all totally awesome and, as an added bonus, all of her pillows are made from recycled plastic water bottles (or something like that). How cool is that?
This cute vest/top/dress thingy (??) is adorable enough for me to overlook my confusion about what to call it. We'll go with vest. It looks warm and cozy and it would probably go amazing over... Hm, let me think. Everything? It's from ModCloth, and I'd add the link but for some reason I'm having trouble finding things there lately. Maybe the things I loved and saved ages ago no longer exist. God, I hope that's not the case. So depressing. Quick, let's look at the picture to cheer ourselves up!

So. Cute. How can it be gone? Damnit, now I'm more depressed.

Moving on. This cute little number I found on this Etsy shop for $25.
I've never had a thing for sequins but suddenly, it just hit me out of nowhere: I need more sequins in my life! I especially wanted a sequined dress this past New Year's Eve, but ended up having to go with something less sparkly. This one would have been perfect. I would love to have this to dress up with heels or down with leggings and a blazer--and just to wear it whenever I need a little boost. Because what can do that better than sequins?

Now, this bra I found on Forever21, and it's completely adorable. It's simple, but looks like it'd be extremely flattering, and it just radiates understated feminity. Unfortunately, they're out of this color and now all they have is an ugly navy blue. If you're interested in that, go find it yourself, I'm too bummed out to link to it. I should have gotten this, it was only 8 bucks!
And finally, this one isn't clothing or fashion related, but hey, neither was the pillow and I didn't say they had to be. Also, it's perfect for my belated, half-assed Valentine's Day post.
I love typewriters, and a red one like this would send me over the moon. I'm not sure if I'd actually use it or just have it around for decoration, but either way, I want it. I saw it on Yay Today but apparently you have to search for one, and I have no idea how much they cost. Oh well. If I had that typewriter, I'd totally put it on my desk next to my (imaginary) red phone and sit there in my red sequined dress, drumming my shiny red nails and rocking a sexy secretary vibe.

*Update*
This girl has the right idea!
Admittedly, it's a laptop and not a typewriter, but I'm not complaining. How awesome does that look? As always, I WANT.

Updated Links

I decided that it would be a good idea to update the links I have on here. If you scroll down a bit and look to the right, you'll see that I've now broken them up into categories: my favorite stores/blogs/blogs about fashion/webcomics/and just general websites that are good for time wasting. I've also added a bunch, and there'll probably be more in the future, so keep your eye on them and check them out if you haven't already. Sometime this weekend I'll try to talk a little bit about each link I added.

I also should have mentioned this weeks ago, but the beautiful web comic Anders Loves Maria has come to an end. I've been reading this for at least a year or two, and I'm so sad that it's over (especially since the ending was heartbreaking!). I'm really hoping she'll turn it into a book, as I would love to have the artwork and story available to flip through whenever I want. For now though, we have the online version. If you haven't read it, definitely do so. It's soooo worth your time.

Jewelry Inspiration

Here's some jewelry inspiration: I've recently been loving two looks, the colorful chunky beaded look and the edgier look of mixed chains. (This is just necklaces and some bracelets, as I currently have more than enough pairs of earrings and need more of the former two.)

I really like this mixed chain bracelet, and I definitely think I could make something like it:

I also like and think I could make this mixed chain necklace:

And the same things go for this chain ring:

As for the chunky, colorful category: I saw these on Coco+Kelley. They're actually a bit much for my tastes, but damn that's some fine eye candy.

Recently, I saw a girl in one of my classes wearing a huge, red necklace like this and instantly resolved to get one myself:
This one is a bit fancier (pretty sure it's ModCloth):

Also in the chunky and pretty category is this necklace from ModCloth. I really liked it, but when I saw it on the model, it was ruined for me. It's actually huuuuuuge. If it was a bit dantier or even normal-sized, I'd get it. Oh well. Still pretty in this picture:
And a final one from ModCloth (it's not exactly what you could call chunky, but it's definitely colorful):

I saw this on StreetStyle and fell in love with this girl's look (just from a picture of her wrists!). The combination of her badass gloves, girly oversized bracelet, and mixture of vintage watches is just perfect to me:
I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for cheap, vintage watches on Etsy, eBay, and my local flea market, and emulate that look.

Okay, and one more necklace that doesn't fit into any of the above categories I was talking about, but I want it anyway. From ModCloth, of course:

So cute and pretty!

What I Wore Today

Erm, more like this afternoon really. I've spent almost the entire week lying around in sweats and feeling awful (part sickness, part winter blues, part not wanting to get up early for classes... you know how that is, I'm sure). Anyway, I had to run some errands this afternoon and decided the best way to feel better would be to wear a cute outfit. Let me tell you, this never fails. I'm particularly proud of today's outfit. Check it out:

Basically, I was tired of constantly seeing black Northface jackets and brown Uggs being paraded past my dorm window. I decided to be a bright beacon of hope for the downtrodden masses on campus who, like me, are tired of winter and need some COLOR in their lives! And, yeah, I wanted to wear something cute. So, we've got my red skinny jeans, a nautical-inspired shirt (since 1. I've been seeing a lot of that lately online and 2. I never wear this shirt), a matching hoodie, and my blue wedges. All of that blue was a bit matchy-matchy, and my striped shirt was a bit short on me, so I added a yellow tanktop underneath, and I think that made it loads better.
I dunno if you can see in this picture but god, I love those bows on the front of these shoes.
Not great quality, as always, sorry, but here you can see my chipped blue nail polish (it was purely coincidence that it matched; I rarely even wear nail polish), my ModCloth ring, and I'm also wearing two necklaces. The bronze one was a gift from my bestie, Jill, and the silver was a gift/antique/family heirloom type thing my Nan gave me. I was going to include a link to the former, so you could see what it looks like and perhaps buy one of your own if you like it, but I can't the link (help me out here, Jill??). It's from a great Etsy shop. Oh, and the reasoning behind the two necklaces: I was just going to wear the bronze one, but the sweater I'm wearing is trimmed with little silver snaps so I wanted to include the silver necklace to play off of that. Just how my mind works, I guess.

See the silver on the sweater?

Oh, and this one I threw in for my readers' amusement. I was trying to get in a good shot of my shoe, and this was obviously not the best way to go about it (especially while wearing really tight jeans). Yeah, I'm a dumbass.
Ah, here we go. I was worried about the crosshatched pattern on the wedges of my shoes conflicting with the striped shirt, but my roommate said it looked fine, and also, what the hell? Live on the edge!
And there you go. Hoped you liked this outfit as much as I do. I'm contemplating wearing it tomorrow too. I barely went out today, so what are the chances that someone will notice and call me out on it? Yeah. That's probably going to happen. Oh well.

Would I Sell My Soul for These?

Yes. Yes, I would. And I know you would too. They're gorgeous but I can't remember where I first saw this picture, or where I could get them. Not that it matters, since they're probably insanely expensive anyway. I guess I'll just have to spend the rest of my life pining for them, sighing longingly every time I look at this picture (several times a day), and hating the lucky girl wearing them. Not to mention envying her fashion sense--how does she pair all of those conflicting pieces together and look so fabulous?? I can't do that!). Oh well. At least I can pretend her face is ugly.

Anyway, if you too are suffering from this picture now (sorry) and longing for some pretty, lacy tights, allow me to point you in the right direction. These are the ones I'd buy immediately if I had any money right now:

DKNY Artisan Net Tights for $20, and they also come in pink.

DKNY Lace tights for $20. Even my manly boyfriend, Mr. Honeybear (hehe, okay, maybe not that manly), agreed that these are pretty and wanted me to get them. Oh, how I want to. We'll see. Although, what's going on in the toe area??

These are from ModCloth but oddly enough, I just went there and couldn't find these anywhere. TRAGIC. I really love these.

Oh well, here's another pair from ModCloth that are almost equally awesome for $15:

Topshop (0bviously) Vintage Lace Tights for $24. I couldn't get the picture from the site but I figured you could get the idea from a picture of them in their packaging just as well, or click on the link to see it on their... leg mannequin.

Gipsy Cyclone Footless tights from asos for $7 (apparently the cheapest ones I found, which sucks; as pretty as they are, I hate having to pay 20 bucks for lacey tights). I'm not sure if I like the fact that these are footless, which makes them more like leggings, but I still think they're really cool so I'm letting it pass.

And that's just a small selection. There's sooo many pretty tights out there: lacey tights, sexy tights, colorful tights, patterned tights. Go shopping--even just window shopping. Tights are great for when you want to wear pretty dresses and skirts in the winter (a tip: layer them!), but they also make SUCH pretty eye candy. I also love knee high and thigh high socks, particularly the latter. Comfy but, at the same time, sexy in a cute way. At least I think so. You?

Alright, grasshoppers, now go explore the wonderful world of leg decoration! (Yes, I do think these things up myself, thanks.)

*Update*
I just thought to include this: DIY Embellished tights! Here's the tutorial and here's what they look like (although I'm sure there's tons of different looks you could try):
Amazing, right? I dunno if I could pull it off, but it does seem pretty simple. We'll see, when I have more time.
